This spring, not only should you engage in deep cleaning, you should also work on figuring out how to keep your house cleaner throughout the year. Here are four different ways that you can make your carpets and house cleaner throughout the year.

#1 Install Entrance Rugs

The first thing you need to do is head down to your local department or furniture store and invest in some outside rugs. You are going to want to put outside entrance rugs that are designed to clean off your shoes to the outside entrance of your home. Try to get one that has a textured surface that will really get the dirt off your shoes.

#2 Create A Dedicated Entrance Way

The second thing that you need to do is create a dedicated entrance way to your home, even if you don't have a formal entrance area. This area should include a second rug for people to step on with their shoes. You should put a bench in this area so that people can sit down and take their shoes off. You should also offer shoe storage in this area.

Make sure that the boundaries of your entry way are clear, so that your family and guests know not to go past the entry way with their shoes on. For guests who are not comfortable taking their shoes off, invest in some paper booties that they can put over their shoes when they are in your home.

#3 Create A Set Vacuuming Schedule

Third, you need to create a set vacuuming schedule for your home. All areas of your home that you consider high traffic, such as the hallway to your bathroom or your family room, should be vacuumed three times a week. Areas that are low traffic, such as the guest bedroom, only need to be vacuumed once a week. Set specific days for vacuuming and make sure that this chore is assigned to someone specific in your household.

When you vacuum on a frequent basis, your carpets will stay cleaner and they will last longer. It will also not take as long to vacuum as their will be less dirt for your vacuum to pick up.

#4 Know When To Empty Your Vacuum

Finally, make sure that you and whomever else in your household who uses the vacuum knows when to empty it out and how to empty it out. If you have a canister vacuum, it can be dumped in the trash, preferable outside, when it gets full. If you have a vacuum that requires the use of a bag, it will need to be dumped out when it gets full.

Schedule a professional cleaning, such as from Atlantic Carpet Care, for even cleaner carpets.
